French Art. Innovations, Obsessions and First Impressions

These exhibitions present two markedly different approaches to explore paintings—each adding fresh perspectives to works from the museum’s own collection.

We delve into Edgar Degas’ lifelong obsession with a single painting, Dance Rehearsal in the Foyer. New research reveals that the work has undergone multiple transformations, concealing motifs that have remained hidden until now.

We will also examine Paul Gauguin’s artistic depictions of the cultures and people he encountered on his travels to Brittany and the former French colony of Tahiti. Gauguin’s paintings reflect personal fantasies rather than reality—an interpretation that contemporary artist Yuki Kihara challenges in the Glyptotek’s newly acquired video work, Paul Gauguin – First Impressions.

Please book the tour no later than 14 days in advance through the website. This private tour costs 1.100 DKK The price does not include admission to the museum. You can choose to pay by EAN number or credit card. Payment is only processed after the tour has ended, but the payment method must be provided when booking.
