Alia Farid – A Sounding of the Earth
Guided Tour of the Special Exhibition.

A guided tour in the exhibition Alia Farid – A Sounding of the Earth with the Kuwaiti-Puerto Rican artist Alia Farid.
Alia Farid has taken over several of the central halls of the Glyptotek. Explore magical talismans that connect ancient blue faience with today’s oil industry.
Experience used cargo nets floating above the museum’s winter garden, serving as reminders of the long journeys once undertaken by the garden’s plants – torn from their native ecosystems and transported across oceans, only to end up in greenhouses like the Glyptotek’s winter garden. And see artificial date palms filling the Glyptotek’s Central hall, symbolic replacements for the once lush palm groves of southern Iraq.
During the tour, we take a closer look at Alia Farid’s works, which – through a critical and poetic lens – examine how nature and material cultural heritage intertwine with narratives of migration and resource extraction.
