The Carlsberg Family consists of a global brewery, three philanthropic foundations, two museums of culture, an immersive cultural attraction and a cutting-edge research laboratory.
The Carlsberg Brewery was founded in 1847. Its founder, J.C. Jacobsen, played a major role in the evolution of modern Denmark in terms of both industry and science. His vision of promoting knowledge and innovation led to the establishment of the Carlsberg Foundation – the very first commercial foundation in Denmark.
His son, Carl Jacobsen followed in his footsteps – as a brewer and as a founder of a foundation and two museums. He was passionate, not only about bringing art to the people, but also about presenting it in public venues and spaces. As a result, the two pioneers and their wives Laura and Ottilia Jacobsen paved the way for the all-embracing work of the Carlsberg Family, which has left a decisive mark on the evolution of modern Denmark.
Since 1847, the Carlsberg Family has dedicated itself to a wide range of enterprises, contributing to both cultural and scientific development, and continuing to work on behalf of a society, in which dynamism and edification are inextricably linked.
The Carlsberg Family comprises the Carlsberg Group, the Carlsberg Foundation, the New Carlsberg Foundation, the Tuborg Foundation, the Carlsberg Laboratory, the Glyptotek, the Frederiksborg Museum of National History and Home of Carlsberg.
