At Slow, we decelerate and open the doors to the ancient city of Palmyra: the Syrian oasis city, which in antiquity flourished due to the caravan trade and became a hub on the so-called Silk Roads between East and West. The evening's theme – legacy – is based on the museum's new permanent exhibition, which houses a unique collection of Palmyrene funerary portraits – in fact the world's largest beyond Syria. They are monuments to life, death and the desire to be remembered.
Read more about the exhibition here.
During the evening, you can meet curator Anna Wirenfeldt Minor, who will take you back to ancient Palmyra, and journalist Waleed Safi, who will provide a sharp look at Syria today. Lærke Kløvedal talks about the work of (co)creating obituaries with her guests in the podcast Det sidste måltid (The Last Supper), and JJ Paulo fills the Winter Garden with his musical melting pot of Afrobeat, energy and presence.
Along the way, you can delve into stories about the infamous emperor Nero, the jackal god Anubis and learn more about brewer Jacobsen through two very different obituaries. Also listen to 10 Strings Duo, students at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, as they pay tribute to the legacy of recently deceased composer Per Nørgaard.
As always you can enjoy a free welcome beer from Carlsberg, and throughout the evening you can buy snacks and dinner prepared by former Michelin chef, Lasse Askov.
Menu in the museum café, Picnic Curry with roasted pumpkin, chickpeas, coconut, curry oil, raita, coriander cress & bread (veg)
Snacks in the Winter Garden Braised lamb in filo with dip Pumpkin humus w. flatbread
Supported by Carlsberg. Thank you!
