Christmas Choir at the Glyptotek
Thursday 18 December at 7 pm

Let Christmas peace descend and enter an enchanting evening when Copenhagen Girls' Choir sings up the Central Hall at the Glyptotek.
The program combines Benjamin Britten's poetic 'A Ceremony of Carols', a beautiful Christmas song by Per Nørgård, and beloved traditional Christmas carols. Three virtuoso musicians will accompany the choir on harp, double bass, and the rare ondes Martenot – an instrument whose dreamy, almost otherworldly sound weaves magic into every note.
Performers
Copenhagen Girls' Choir Maria Boelskov Sørensen, harp Peter Kohlmetz Møller, ondes martenot Mathæus Bech, double bass Anne-Terese Sales, conductor
About 'A Ceremony of Carols'
Benjamin Britten composed 'A Ceremony of Carols' in April 1942 on the Atlantic during a journey from USA to England on a Swedish freighter. During a brief landing in Nova Scotia, Britten visited a bookstore and found 'The English Galaxy of Shorter Poems', a collection of medieval English poems from the 14th to 16th centuries. These texts formed the basis for the eleven movements in 'A Ceremony of Carols', where Britten beautifully links the language of the medieval poems into his musical universe.
